Little Ray o' Joe Sunshine

Howdy kids. Finally found something worth checking out. It's the feel-good movie of the year, but I think it might be a remake...

It'll make you smile...

News! I gots news!

Well kids, it's official, the NEP album lilies of the field is finally available. Check it out, it's got some good stuff, Maynard.

I thought I'd put something funny or whimsical here, but nothing's coming to mind. Maybe everything is just that lame... except for the new NEP album, of course...

Just another random bit

Here's a fun quote, Bruce Campbell speaking on "Freddy vs Jason vs Ash"
"I guess I could just say this: they're in discussions right now... They're also trying, you know, to have peace in the Middle East..."

Don't you ever wish you could just get a random quote from a certain person on something. Just call 'em up and say "talk about this for a minute"? That and they could do your answer machine greeting message. I'd love to get Samuel L Jackson to do mine. And somewhere he would call me a bad motherf*cker.

Yeah.

Good Lord

So this has got to be the most horrible song and video ever. I don't care if it was for a kids show or even as a joke--my ears are bleeding and I want to gouge out my own eyes. You know, happy thoughts.

As always, things are in flux, but I'll be sure to let you know what's going on as soon as I find out (read: we're all screwed)

Just saying hi

So I've been bad. I got the Lurie interview up and then *poof* I went away. Okay it's not quite that bad, but between work and various wranglings and machinations I've been blog-less for a few days. Hope y'all haven't missed me too much. I'm sure that you've all been able to kill your separation anxiety with inordinate amounts of alcohol and soft sobbing masked by your pillow. It's okay. Joe's back. There, there.

So I'm kicking back, watching "House" (cuz abusive smart characters appeal to me for some reason), contemplating playing a round of the Evil Dead: Regeneration (which is, by far, the best ED game to date...) and going to bed early. So many decisions, so little time.

Also, there's been a slight hiccup, so lilies of the field has been delayed by a day or so. As always, check back here for official release info when it's out. It'll be good. You'll love it.

So that's about it from Mammyland. Cards won the NL Central this weekend so that's a big huzzah! (Everyone now: Huzzah!)

Speaking of baseball, this made me smile. Enjoy.

Drama from Joe

Scene from my day:

cast:
Little neighbor kid
Me

setting, me walking up to my house after running out briefly to pick up some goodies (more on that in a moment)

Little Neighbor Kid:
What are you doing?

Me:
Going home.

Little Neighbor Kid:
Why?

Me:
Um, because it's my house.

Little Neighbor Kid:
Why?

Me:
Um, because I sleep there.

Little Neighbor Kid:
(pauses) That's not much of a reason.

exunt

Ah, kids. So charmingly surreal. Anyway, went out today and got the new Sigur Ros and the new Evil Dead game (both of which are pretty kick ass thus far, but I have to dig on both before I feel comfortable making a final judgment).

Have you checked out the John Lurie interview yet? If not, you should, it's good stuff Maynard, definitely worth the time. Not much here. Other than, of course you're less than a week away from the absofreakinglutely amazing and oft-delayed release of the debut album by the NEP, lilies of the field.

Let the countdown begin...

Reflective Joe

So I was hanging with The Chad tonight. Had to catch the premier of "Man with the Screaming Brain" which was pretty much what you'd expect--cheesy as all hell but with some nice Bruce moments. After that we ended up MST3K-ing some painful sci-fi DVD he had with Antonio Sabato in it. Twas fun.

Anyway, the highlight was on my way out we ended up going outside. He lives out by a lake more or less outside of regular civilization. The Northern Lights were dancing overhead in the darkness. They'd create nebulous phoenixes over us and then morph into a face. I saw the face of a woman that appeared sad. I felt like I should apologize, but I don't know why.

As I drove home the sky continued to glow with migrating patterns of alternating luminescence and black sky speckled with stars. Things seemed primeval and mysterious again. It's not often that an element of mystery is injected back into everyday life. With the frustrations of the daily grind it seems more important to really grasp those instances and at least believe that for a few moments at a time that maybe we don't have it all figured out and that that's just fine.

Or something like that.

Lil update

Interview with John is still going swimmingly. If you still haven't checked out any of John's work, I strongly recommend you go and track down "Fishing with John" or some early Jarmusch films ("Down By Law" "Stranger than Paradise") or his musical work (soundtracks to the aforementioned films and as frontman for the Lounge Lizards) so get off that keyster and get yerself some culture, boy...
