The Last Shall Be

...lilies of the field and a sparrow in the loft
watch one die just have another come up

...if these rhymes and melodies can't help but offend
just remember we all get ours in the end.

Why is there an element of hope in loss, a touch of joy in pain and beauty hidden within decay?

Maybe it's just me...

No need to panic

Just a quick note to say (duh) that we're still here. Our webhost decide to go belly up for a few hours on Saturday for no reason. So, if you've sent any e-mails you very well might have to resend them if you don't hear back.

So, other than pulling my hair out for the better part of the day, I got a few other things done, but nothing worth mention at the moment.

Play this and know that Joe still loves you...

On Being and Somethingness

You all should check this out. It's got a trailer for the new Evil Dead game with Ash doing his Hamlet impression. Tis nice.

At the moment kicking back watching the Cards battle it out with the Dodgers. One that note if you'd like a chance to win tickets to a Cards game (and let's face it, who wouldn't?) The Birdhouse is having a pretty rockin' promotion. Check it out here. I was originally slated to appear, but sadly life happens. In either case, don't let Joe's seat go to waste. Join up, participate, win. Can't go wrong.

As I hinted before, there is a new Feature in the works. Should be a good'n. More when it becomes available, but I'll give you a hint--it's referenced somewhere on this page.

Speaking of which, I'm sharing all sorts of stuff today. Here's a Livejournal that just has a bunch of random images from across the net. It's strangely fascinating. It's where I found this little beauty:

And finally, I'd like to send out a personal greeting to JP, the latest member of the Cult of Joe. Like the Osmonds, JP's a little bit country and a little bit rock. Teeth aren't as scary though. Continued props to my peeps Christophe der Soul Stealer, Rex, Kari & D-Funk and all the boys and girls who make Joe-Mammy.com so much derned fun.

Parting bits of wisdom.

New of the nifty

'Sup my beloved Mammylings, how are you?

I'm happy to announce that it would appear that I've got the next Feature for the month of August lined up. As always, I tell no secrets and drink no wine before its time but it's a good un. Of course there hasn't been a "bad" one in my humble opinion (which reminds me, check out the latest Feature with Linford Detweiler from Over the Rhine--it's approved by the American Dental Association)

In other news, work, as always is progressing on a number of fronts and hopefully I'll have something to share with you kids in the near future (I know, I know, how many times have I said that before?) but at the very least you can expect some NEP news soon and hopefully some nifty new merch available through the Joe-Mammy.com Store.

And speaking of music, here's a little ditty for your amusement. Don't blame me.

What IS Joe?

Joe here (ok, I recognize that might not be necessary to say, but I digress...)

Surfing the web and checked out Googlism, which is kind of an internet-based random association/stream of consciousness engine. Tis neat. Highlights for Joe:

joe is my interactive bra
joe is a powerful new technology written in java
joe is so getting laid tonight
joe is still damned
joe is hurtled to purgatory
joe is nasty louise
joe is not satisfied with "state of the art"... there are always ways to improve
and finally
joe is hardly an appropriate name for a lover man

*sighs* That's what she said...

Word to your mother

Howdy kids. Not much going on here, or at least nothing I can reveal (or I shall have to kill you...) but here's a little something to soothe your separation anxiety.

Anyone checked out the Kari Byron art show yet?

Another Welcome

Well, I've seen the numbers and I see that you guys are flocking in (largely due to a certain redhead who was gracious enough to drop by for a Feature a couple months back...) so let me give you an impromptu greeting from Joe-Mammy.com. I'm Joe and I'll be your tour guide.

Or, you know, just say that Joe-Mammy.com has all sorts of nifty bits and pieces and a fair amount of silliness from yours truly. Check out the Store for official Joe Mammy goods and items from your favorite featured guests! Haven't heard of all the Features? Well, check 'em out, they're a good read and might just open your mind to something nifty (Over the Rhine is the latest and is definitely worth your time...)

While you're at it you can check out "All Things Right and Beautiful" the first novel (in promotional form--trust me, they'll be worth a pile on eBay at some point...) from all of us here at Joe-Mammy.com (read: from me...). That and any coins thrown in my direction help me keep the ol' website up and keep getting nifty guests to drop by.

Anecdote time:
So, I made my folks watch "Napoleon Dynamite" tonight. They're good old-fashioned midwesterner types and while I laugh at my favorite parts, laughing and then looking over and seeing the bewildered look on the 'rents faces: priceless. As far as my dad was concerned it might as well have been in German without subtitles for how much he was getting of it. Twas greatly classic. They looked like lost puppies while I was rolling to lines like "I caught you a delicious bass."

But in case you didn't find that funny, here's a little something that should amuse you.

And another thing

One of the creepiest things I've ever seen in my life.

I don't know how I found it.

I don't want to remember how I ended up there.

I just want it all to go away.

Stalkers of the world unite, you've found the site that can feed your creepy unnatural desires to control and love someone...

Yikes.

Happy Monkey Diaper Men Unite!

It's 3am and I'm watching "Twin Peaks". Sometimes there's a strange zen-like quality to frittering time away. What is the sound of nothing happening? I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure I know who killed Laura Palmer.

In case you were curious about your beloved Joe:
Pedro
You are Pedro Sanchez and love holy chips.
Which Napoleon Dynamite character are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Hung out with some old compatriots the other evening including a Mr. der Soul Stealer. Twas a good time (and if you're reading this, tell me which Napoleon character you end up being...)

Before I forget, a big ol' congratulations to my good friend Brent and his wife Adina on their latest addition Rowan to the family.

Brent's the one on the right. And no, Adina is not the one on the left. That, in fact, is Layne who has no bearing in this story...

I'm tired right now and restless. Either a sign that I'm going to be an irritable SOB for the next couple o' days or that I'm about to do something kinda cool. Here's hoping for the latter (for everyone's sake).

Among the ideas:
-a new NEP song to finish out the album (long story)
-writing a comic book script
-becoming Emmy Rossum's love monkey (yes, I know she's too young for me, but I'd be a love monkey so it's all right...)
-Rock the Casbah (not just any casbah, mind you but the Casbah...)
-finish "Front Lawn Chair to the Apocalypse"
-Keep working on the novel
-watch too much tv

Hopefully better intentions will rule the day. Otherwise the words for the day will be "sullen" and "surly."

The party continues...

Updatey Goodness!

Well, first, let me announce that the latest Feature has been posted. If you don't know who Over the Rhine is (are?), then you've been missing out. But on the bright side you can check out the Joe Mammy interview with none other than Linford Detweiler. Then you can buy the music in good conscience which is good for it doth rule.

Secondly, although I don't want steal OtR's thunder, this is worth checking out just because, on some level this has got to be the greatest obituary ever. Trust me on this, tis sweet.

So, to recap, new rockin' Feature and amusing death-related link. And it's not even Christmas yet..

Happiness one link at a time

Well, it's been a while since you got a bit of wacky link goodness so here's something. Apparently this has been around for a few years but it's still hippity hoppity and trippy, so what more can you ask for? Well, I mean other than an old man talking from a sea turtles body?

Weekend Update

Hola. Memorable image from my weekend:

No, he's not dead, he's just shy. That (in case you were wondering) is my boy Mikey (otherwise known as "Anonymous" in the infamous "Napoleon" Blog comment face-off--see previous few posts for reference...)

Anyway, known the guy since I was five (which, just in case you weren't sure was a loooooooooooong time ago...) so it was cool to catch up again. And, since I'm relatively sure he'll be reading this at some point, welcome to your induction to the Blog-o-Rama.

Anyway, pretty quiet weekend thus far. Saw "Fantastic Four" and I can really recommend that if you see one new movie this weekend that it should be... "Dark Water". I still haven't seen "Dark Water" but "FF" was soooooo lame. Even the eternally yummy Jessica Alba wasn't able to provide meaningful distraction from the great boredom. And she was wearing a skin tight suit, man. It's a sad, sad thing. And before you start thinking what a sexist pig I am, well, that's what the suit was designed for. Geeze.

Me and The Chad were getting some tasty dinner and we had a pretty cool discussion. We both thought the only way to make Episodes 2 and 3 of the Star Wars prequels watchable would be to kick out Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker and recast it with Napoleon Dynamite. I'm telling ya, it would be gold. "Princesses like jedi's with skills, you know, like lightsaber skills or mind control skills or computer hacking skills..."

Take that image and run with it. It's classic stuff, man. In fact, go ahead and add your favorite envisioned Jedi Dynamite lines in the comment section. It'll be fun.

And while we're at it, I won't be able to make it to Kari Byron's showing in San Francisco, but should anyone make it, feel free to report back here with how it is. It would be greatly appreciated.

Stay tuned for more Joe-related goodness...

Current events with Joe

Ahhh, just in case you thought the Olympics were out of touch, the International Olympic Committee announced today that baseball and softball were going to be left off the 2012 program (or, as they call it "programme"). Thank God. It's about time that an world organization (or, as they call it, "organisation") stood up and was willing to say:

"Hey, someone needs to rise up against they tyranny of organised (there it is again...) baseball and softball. No one cares about these so-called sports. What the people really, really want to see is shooting, table tennis and the equestrian. That's where the kids are at--ping pong and horsie riding and guns. Kids love the horsies and guns. You know, perhaps we should preempt the entire proceedings for a John Wayne movie marathon. We'll consider that for 2016, actually. That would broaden our options for where to host it. How does Sheboygan sound?"

On the bright side, I guess I can plan to continue to not care about the Olympics for the better part of decade. That's something, right?

A Dispatch from the lovely Ms Kari Byron

Attention Denizens of Mammyland:

Your faithful webguide (me) received a note from the charming and talented Kari Byron.

Kari's work is being featured in an art show, "Departure" at the Urbis Artium Gallery in San Francisco. Showing is July 11th-23rd so if you're in the neighborhood (or would like to be in the neighborhood) drop in and show your support and take in some art and broaden your horizons. It'll be a good time. Tell 'em Joe sent ya (and if they look like they don't know what you're talking about, they're just kidding around. Everyone knows Joe...)

On the Metaphysics of Morals

Well folks, hope you had a rockin' 4th. Your faithful Joe spent a goodly portion of the weekend hanging with Rod, Dustin and Kari (not all at the same time mind you...) and it was a lurvely time. (I don't know why the word "lurvely" has suddenly made my vocabulary. Maybe I'm turning into a 14 year old girl...)

I feel compelled to announce that you'll see a pretty significant drop off (read: discontinuation) of the movie reviews. It was a good run, but frankly I am tired of sitting through movies I have no desire to see and feeling compelled to write about them. So it goes. Hopefully I'll have some other news that may explain some of the "streamlining" that is likely to take place here in the near future.

And, although I'm sure this site has been down, 'round and back again, I recommend checking out Googlefight for those of you looking to kill some time. Here are a couple of my favorite battles:
#1
#2
#3

As for me, I'm kicking back and finally getting around to watching the "Firefly" series (Jewel Staite is so adorable it hurts...) and enjoying it. Well, the wheel goes 'round, kiddies. Catch ya on the flip side...

or something less cheesy and cliche...
